How to Get More Views on Your Facebook Reels and Make Money
Master the secrets of Facebook Reels and skyrocket your views. Follow our comprehensive guide to create engaging, viral-worthy content and unlock monetization opportunities.
Facebook Reels have exploded in popularity over the last year, quickly becoming one of the best ways to create engaging video content on the platform. With over 3.05 billion monthly active users on Facebook, Reels provide a massive opportunity to reach new audiences and grow your brand.
But simply creating Reels isn’t enough. You need people to actually watch them. The more views your Reels get, the more Facebook will show them to new potential viewers in their feeds. More views means more opportunities for your business.
So how exactly can you get more eyes on your Facebook Reels?
In this comprehensive guide, we’ll walk you through proven tips and strategies to increase views and engagement on your Reels. From optimizing your content to leveraging trends, these techniques will help you create Reels that captivate audiences.
Research Your Target Audience
The foundation for creating engaging content starts with truly understanding your audience. Ask yourself:
- Who are the primary people interacting with my content on Facebook?
- What content resonates most with them?
- When are they most active on the platform?
- What are their interests, pain points, and goals?
Use Facebook’s detailed audience insights tools in the Meta Business Suite to dive deeper into demographic data like age, location, gender, and interests. This will appear once you have 100 followers and enough data. Look at the posts and Reels that perform best to identify content themes and formats your audience loves.
Armed with these insights, you can craft Reels tailored specifically to your audience’s preferences, increasing relevance and viewership.
Leverage Facebook Ad Targeting Options
This is an option if you have a budget if you want to skyrocket your views. Beyond your organic followers, leverage Facebook’s unmatched targeting capabilities through Ads to get your Reels in front of new potential customers.
You can click the “Boost Reel or Boost Post” button. Once you are going to set it up, you can modify a targeted audience based on location, interests, age, and many more.
Target lookalike audiences modeled after your existing high-value customers for laser-focused reach. Use interest, behavioral, and geographic targeting to zero in on your perfect viewers.
Promote your best-performing organic Reels with Ads to expand visibility. The broader exposure can help increase overall engagement.
Collaborate With Relevant Influencers
Influencer marketing is exploding for a reason. It works.
Partnering with nano, micro, or macro influencers in your niche who align with your brand can introduce your Reels to new, targeted audiences.
Look for influencers who create content complementary to yours and have an engaged following. Compensate them to create branded Reels promoting your products, services, or messaging.
This third-party credibility and direct access to their follower base gives your brand increased visibility. The right influencer collaborations can take your Reels to the next level.
Collaborating With Facebook Content Creators in the same niche
This is also the technique I used in blowing up traffic to my Payhip Store where I offer the Blueprint for Facebook Content Creation and Monetization. I tapped every content creator in my niche.
They will not all respond but most of them promoted my ebook and it gave me organic traffic and sales. This gives me an extra $36.75–$110.25 per day aside from $5000+ monthly coming from Ads on Reels alone.
This is only the tip of the iceberg. I emphasized all the strategies in my ebook where I offered value and 5 years' worth of tested tricks and experiments.
Hook Viewers Immediately
You have a mere 3 seconds to capture attention on Facebook. This aligns with the visuals detected by the retina of the eye and delivers the stimulus to the occipital area of the brain within just 0.8 seconds. If your opening visuals or text don’t immediately intrigue viewers, they’ll simply keep scrolling.
Hook your audience right off the bat by:
- Opening with an eye-catching visual like an exciting scene, bold text, or a surprise reveal.
- Front-loading is the most interesting part of your video.
- Use the first 3 seconds to tease what’s coming later in the video to spark curiosity.
- Adding overlay text early on to communicate your key message fast.
Once they are hooked in the first 3 seconds, they most likely continue to view it until 15 seconds. At this point, continue to grab their attention for them to finish your reels.
When most of the views of your reels in the first hour achieve the 15-second mark (first wave), it signals the algorithm to show it to more people within 72 hours (second wave). This is a crucial criterion for virality.
Every creative choice in those precious first moments can make or break whether viewers stick around to watch. Structure your Reels to highlight something intriguing from the start.
Use Hashtags Strategically
Hashtags help viewers who don’t already follow you discover your Reels. Include relevant hashtags people are searching for and following.
But don’t go overboard. 1–3 well-chosen hashtags are ideal. Mix targeted and broadly popular tags related to your post topic.
The Right Strategies for Using Hashtags
Do not use anymore the hashtags #fyp #foryoupage #viralreelsvideo #fbreelsviralvideo or #trending. I mean those that are popular. These hashtags will not work for everyone especially if you are just starting.
The Hashtags algorithm will face two challenges:
volume and competition
…just like keywords. Those hashtags mentioned above can no longer work because they are destined to go to a saturated library of hashtags which means they are in high volume with high competition.
Our aim is to get the most relevant ones that have high volume with low competition. I hope you get this.
I explained the whole strategy (3 x 3 strategy) and how to get the proper hashtags in my ebook.
Create Reels That Educate or Entertain
Information and entertainment are two evergreen types of content that engage audiences. The former solves a problem and the latter makes your audience laugh. These are the two main reasons why people use social media or the internet.
I repeat: they want to solve a problem or they want to be entertained.
Educational Reels that teach viewers new skills or provide how-to advice can attract and retain viewers. Entertaining Reels utilizing things like humor, drama, suspense, or creativity can also perform well.
The key is creating Reels with a clear purpose that adds value for your audience. Help them, inspire them, entertain them, or motivate them.
When viewers feel they are learning something useful or being entertained, they’re more likely to watch your entire Reel and engage with it.
Utilize Trending Audio and Effects
Leveraging popular soundtracks, songs, and AR effects that are non-copyrighted can significantly boost your Reel’s appeal. You can always use the Soundtracks and effects in the Facebook Sound Collection.
These familiar audio and visual elements signal to viewers that your content is fresh and entertaining.
Look at what audio and effects are going viral related to your niche. For example, a restaurant could use a trending food song whereas a fashion brand could jump on the latest outfit change audio.
Post at Optimal Times
As with most social platforms, timing is critical when posting Reels. Pay attention to when your target audience is most active on Facebook.
How? Experiment!
Posting during peak hours for your viewers means more people will see your Reels in their feeds and engagement will be higher.
Testing different posting times will reveal when your audience is most responsive. In general, mid-mornings (9 am-10 am), lunch hours (12:30–2 pm), and evenings (6 pm-9 pm)tend to perform well.
Use Facebook’s “Most Active Times” insights under the Planner button in the Meta Business Suite to identify your audience’s most active hours.
Create Binge-Worthy Reels
Serialized Reels that tell an ongoing story or provide a series of useful tips perform extremely well since they encourage viewers to keep watching.
Build anticipation and cliffhangers into your Reels that leave people wanting more. This could be:
- A step-by-step tutorial broken into parts
- An episodic story people tune in to see the next chapter of
- A sequence of Reels providing different perspectives on one topic
Number and optimize each video in your series. Consistent themes, branding, captions, and calls to action across videos also help. Hook viewers in and keep them coming back.
Repurpose Top Content
One of the easiest ways to quickly populate your Reels strategy is to repurpose existing top-performing content.
Consider reformatting into short Reels:
- Excerpts from high-engagement videos
- Popular sections from longer tutorials or webinars
- Key advice or tips from highly shared blogs and social posts
This evergreen content already resonates with your audience. Giving it new life through Reels exposes it to new viewers and gives existing audiences a fresh way to engage.
Engage With Your Audience
Interaction and community build loyalty with your audience. Respond to comments on your Reels. Like and reply to responses.
And remember to avoid clickbait and engagement bait anywhere in your content including baiting CTAs.
Ask viewers questions to spark conversation. Run polls to crowdsource opinions.
This way, engagement shows you value your audience. Their continued participation will keep viewership and overall Reel reach higher.
Cross-Promote Reels
Don’t just post your Reels and move on. Re-share Reels to your Facebook Stories and appropriate groups where you are allowed to share. Highlight top Reels by pinning them.
Share Reels natively in Facebook Groups related to the content. Promote your best Reels across other social platforms like Instagram, YouTube shorts, Pinterest, X, Mastodon, Tumblr, TikTok, and Reddit.
Persistent promotion and distribution through different channels will expand your Reels’ reach over time. It takes consistent effort to maximize viewership.
Collaborate With Other Pages
Partnering with complementary brands and influencers is one smart collaboration strategy. But you can also team up directly with other Facebook pages.
Work together to co-create Reels featuring both of your brands and cross-promote them to each other’s audiences.
Legally and strategically tag other pages in your Reels that are relevant to the content. Their followers may discover your Reels via tags.
Facebook specifically recommends collaborating with pages with a similar or bigger audience size to expand your reach.
Analyze Performance and Pivot
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Use analytics in Meta Business Suite to track how your Reels are performing.
Identify your best and worst content based on views, completion rate, engagement, and audience retention.
Look at which captions, audio, and effects resonate. See when your followers are most active.
Tune Your Strategy Based on Insights
Analyzing your Reels performance data isn’t useful unless you act on the insights.
Look for patterns in your top-performing content that you can replicate in future Reels. Such as:
- Specific audio, effects, or filters
- Certain captions or text styles
- Particular subjects, themes, and formats
- Specific posting days and times
Likewise, avoid repeating elements common in your worst-performing Reels. Pivot your strategy to create content that clearly resonates best with your audience.
Maintain a Consistent Posting Schedule
Sporadic posting makes it hard for viewers to know when to expect new videos. Maintaining a consistent publishing schedule trains your audience to continually check for your latest Reels.
Posting 3–5 times per week is recommended by Facebook to keep engagement high. You can increase this to 4–6 reels per day. Schedule Reels in advance using Planner in Meta Business Suite.
Strike the right balance between quantity and quality — don’t oversaturate but do post consistently. Use reminders and calendars to keep yourself accountable.
Team up with Micro-Influencers in Your Niche
We’ve already covered how collaborating with influencers can broaden your reach. But specifically connecting with micro-influencers can be one of the most affordable, efficient ways to expose your Reels to new audiences.
Micro-influencers in the 1,000–100,000 follower range often have highly targeted, engaged niches. Their followers view them as trusted experts.
Find relevant micro-influencers to create branded Reels for you or participate in content collaborations together. The right co-marketing partnerships with micro-influencers provide excellent ROI.
Optimize Reels for Mobile
The vast majority of Facebook video views come from mobile. Ensure your Reels are completely optimized for mobile viewing experiences.
Use vertical orientations that fill mobile screens. Add text overlays that are easy to read on small displays. Enlarge key graphics and visuals.
Choose colors that pop on mobile and test your content across different devices. Check that the audio is clear on small speakers.
Familiarize yourself with the safe zone of Facebook reels’ interface.
Your content and viewing experience should be seamless for mobile users. After all, that’s how most people will ultimately consume your Reels.

FAQs
How many Reels should I post per week?
Posting 3–5 Reels per week maintains consistency without overwhelming your audience. Gradually, increase to 4–6 reels per day. Always focus on quality over quantity.
What’s better — educational or entertaining Reels?
There’s no definitive “better” — both educational and entertaining Reels can perform well. Know your audience and what content they respond to best. A mix of both educational and fun content often works well to vary things up.
What’s the ideal Reel length?
15–30 seconds is the recommended sweet spot. You can go up to 90 seconds if needed to communicate your message (previous 60 seconds.) Avoid exceeding 90 seconds unless you’re confident you have captivating content that warrants a longer runtime.
How many hashtags should I use?
1–3 relevant hashtags in your Reel caption are ideal. Any more starts looking spammy. Research high volume with low competition hashtags but don’t just rely on broad generic ones — include niche hashtags too.
When’s the best time to post Reels?
Post when your audience is most active, usually early morning, lunch hours, and evening. Use Facebook’s “Most Active Time” insights to identify your audience’s peak hours. Test times to determine what’s optimal for your audience.
